It seems that Space based architecture promoted by GigaSpaces is becoming more prevalent / popular. FlyObjectSpace is an open source implementation of JavaSpaces that has bindings for Scala and Ruby as well as Java, and also extends the core JavaSpaces specification by implementing batch operations.

It looks like an Eclipse plug-in for GigaSpaces next generation Application server, in which the middleware (Logic, Data, Messaging) is virtualised in Memory will soon be released.

GigaSpaces have made available beta 7.0.0 M6 (build 3494) for download through the download section of GigaSpaces Early Access Program page.
